MAGICAL MEMORIES / DESTINATIONS
Cruise getaways, beyond the brochure
Choose a sailing by how you want to spend your days—not just a picture of the ship.

01 / YOUR TRIP, THOUGHTFULLY PLANNED
Start with the itinerary and departure port
my public travel profile includes Disney Cruise Line, Carnival and Royal Caribbean. Start with where you want to go, how you will reach the departure port and the amount of time you can be away. Then compare the ships and sailings that fit.
A convenient departure port can simplify travel; a particular itinerary may justify an additional flight and hotel stay. Compare the complete journey, including the days before and after the cruise. Do not assume that two sailings with the same number of nights provide the same time in port or the same pace.

Match the cruise experience to your group
Disney Cruise Line, Carnival and Royal Caribbean each offer sailings worth discussing, but the brand name is only the beginning. Ship, itinerary, cabin and individual interests all shape the experience. Ask about dining arrangements, entertainment, age-appropriate options and what your group will actually use.
A family with younger children may prioritize different routines from a couple seeking quiet time or a group of friends. Discuss the balance between organized activities and independent time. I can help you compare specific options without assuming every ship in a fleet offers identical facilities.

Choose your cabin with the daily routine in mind
Interior, oceanview, balcony and suite categories are useful starting points, not complete descriptions. Compare the actual bedding, usable space, location and permitted occupancy of the category in your quote. Think about whether the room is mainly for sleeping or somewhere you expect to spend significant downtime.
- Ask how additional beds are arranged and used.
- Discuss connecting-room requirements before booking.
- Consider proximity to lifts and public spaces.
- Raise accessibility needs before selecting a cabin.
- Ask which features and services belong to that exact category.

Separate included experiences from optional costs
A cruise price is not automatically an all-inclusive vacation price. Royal Caribbean’s public guidance describes accommodation, complimentary dining, entertainment and ship-dependent activities as core inclusions, while optional purchases can be separate. Other suppliers and fares need their own review.
Ask about beverages, specialty dining, internet, shore excursions, service charges, transfers, parking and travel protection. A low base fare and a higher fare can be difficult to compare until you include the extras your party actually wants. I can help organize that comparison; the supplier’s current terms remain the reference for your sailing.

Balance sea days and port days
Sea days can offer space for relaxation and onboard plans. Port days introduce decisions about exploring independently, reserving an excursion or staying aboard. The right mix depends on your interests and energy—not simply the largest number of stops.
For a sample planning exercise, mark one priority at each port and one optional idea. Then consider travel time, accessibility, weather and the ship’s return requirements. An independently arranged activity requires particular care around timing. Itinerary changes can happen, so keep expectations flexible.

Plan the journey to the ship
Work backward from the supplier’s required arrival and boarding arrangements. Compare arriving in the port area earlier against the costs and risks of a tighter connection. Include the hotel, airport transfer and luggage logistics in the overall plan.
Travel-document requirements depend on nationality, route and circumstances. Verify current requirements with official authorities and the cruise supplier. Do not assume a rule from another traveler’s trip applies to yours. Share accessibility or medical planning concerns through the appropriate supplier process, not a public website form.

What to ask Sue for a cruise comparison
Share the number of travelers, children’s ages at sailing, preferred dates, departure flexibility, destinations of interest and budget for the whole journey. Add the cabin arrangement you need and any important onboard priorities.
Ask for clarity about deposits, payment dates, cancellation conditions and what happens if a change is needed. Those terms vary by booking. If you already have a reservation, provide the ordinary booking context first and ask whether any transfer or assistance is possible; do not assume every existing booking can be moved.

Cruise planning questions
Is everything on board included? No—review the exact fare and optional costs.
Do all ships from one supplier have the same activities? No. Compare the specific ship, not just the brand.
Can we add a hotel or a theme-park stay? Discuss the land portion as part of the full itinerary, including travel days.
Should everyone book the same cabin type? Not necessarily, but groups should coordinate dates, supplier, sailing and expectations before separate bookings are made.
